Silas Cheung

Silas Paul Cheung (born August 14, 1973 in Hampstead ) is a retired British - American basketball player .

career

Cheung left his home country as a teenager and attended Magruder High School in the US state of Maryland . From 1993 to 1997, the 1.88 meter tall player was part of the college team at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland. There, Cheung scored an average of 9.6 points per encounter in his final season 1996/97, which was also the highest value of his four years at university.

He began his professional career in the German basketball league and was under contract with TVG Trier in 1997/98 . With the Moselans, he won the DBB Cup and also took part in the European club competition Korać Cup . From 1998 to 2000 Cheung played for Athlon Ieper in Belgium .

Cheung then interrupted his playing career and was assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University  in the United States in the 2000/01 season . He then returned as a player on the field and was in the 2001/02 season with the British team London Towers  under contract, took part with London in the Euroleague . In the competition, Cheung scored an average of 4.6 points per encounter in 14 games. Cheung was an England international.

He embarked on a career as a coach in the United States: in 2003 he became a coach at Urbana High School. In 2006 Cheung left Urbana and moved to the coaching position at St. John's Catholic Prep in Buckeystown (Maryland). There he held the coaching position until 2009, then he devoted himself to the management of school sports at Magruder High School, which he had previously exercised alongside his coaching activity. He also worked as a teacher.
