Silvester Gfrerer (born September 15, 1959 in Grossarl ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Since June 2018 he has been a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Salzburg state parliament .

Life

After primary school in Hüttschlag, Silvester Gfrerer attended secondary school in Grossarl . He then did an apprenticeship as a farmer from 1974 to 1976 and then an apprenticeship as an electrician , which he completed in 1980 with the final apprenticeship examination . In 1980/81 he completed military service , in 1996 he passed the agricultural skilled worker examination. Gfrerer has been a farmer since 1993 and runs an organic farm with his family in Grossarl with dairy farming, horse breeding, forestry and alpine farming as well as rental. He is married and has five daughters.

From 1977 to 1984 he was a member of the local committee of the Young People's Party (JVP) in Großarl , from 1987 to 1993 he was the local chairman of the farmers' union and from 1989 to 2009 he was a member of the community council in Großarl. In 2005 he became a councilor of the district chamber of farmers in the St. Johann im Pongau district , of which he has been chairman since 2010. Since 2009 he has been the district chairman of the farmers' association in Pongau and since 2015 chairman of the Salzburg Alm and Mountain Farmers Association . Since 2010 he has been a member of the District Party Presidium of the ÖVP in Pongau, and since 2018 he has been a member of the State Party Board of the ÖVP Salzburg.

After the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , he has been a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Salzburg state parliament since June 13, 2018 , where he is the committee for civil rights and petitions, the committee for internal affairs, the committee for agriculture, forestry and water management, the rules of procedure committee and Member of the National Defense Committee.
