Simon Goulart
Simon Goulart the Elder Ä. (Born October 20, 1543 in Senlis , France ; † February 3, 1628 in Geneva , Geneva Republic) was a French humanist , translator, author and Reformed theologian . In some cases it is also listed as Gulart, SGS, Simon Goulart von Senlis, Goulard von Senlis, Goulartus, Goulardus, Goulartius, Goulart, Golartius, Golart or Gaulard.
Life
Goulart first studied law , but then became a theologian as a follower of the Reformation . In 1566 he came to Geneva, became pastor in Chancy that same year and five years later (1571) in Geneva. With the permission of the Geneva government, he performed his church service temporarily in several French parishes, namely in 1576 in the province of Forez , 1582 in Champagne and 1600 in Grenoble .
After Théodore de Bèze's death , he chaired the “Vénérable Compagnie des Pasteurs” for seven years at the request of the council. Goulart was a writer, collected small papers and files on the French wars of religion and was the editor of the history of the Huguenots suffered by Jean Crespin (1520–1572) . His son was the eponymous theologian and writer Simon Goulart (1575–1628).
