Simon Höller

Simon Höller (* 1601 in Straubing ; † March 4, 1675 ibid) was a German pharmacist and mayor of Straubing.

Simon Höller was the second son of the pharmacist of the same name († 1625) from Straubing and his wife Maria Simmerlin. His baptism was on July 16, 1601. His father's pharmacy, who came to Straubing from Wendelstein near Nuremberg, was in the building of today's Einhorn-Apotheke at Theresienplatz 8. His older brother Thomas (* 1596) became his father's pharmacist. He died in the plague year of 1634. Simon Höller (the younger) was the pharmacist from 1634 at the latest, bought the pharmacy building in 1635 for 1340 guilders and ran the pharmacy until 1645, when he handed it over to his younger brother Georg. In 1649 the pharmacy fell back to Simon Höller when his brother died. In 1665, Simon handed over the pharmacy, including the house and accessories, to his son Philipp Jakob for 8,000 guilders, but he sold it in 1669.

In the Swedish War of 1633, Simon Höller was the leader of the civil military and is said to have shot 34 enemies. On September 14, 1641 he was because of his services to the defense of the city of Emperor Ferdinand III. raised to the imperial nobility.

Since 1651 Höller was mayor of Straubing.

With a decree of February 10, 1667, Simon Höller was elevated to the patriciate by Elector Ferdinand Maria .

From 1645 to 1669, Simon Höller was the lord of the court brands in Aiterhofen and Metting , which he had bought from the estate of Christoph von Lerchenfeld . In 1669 he sold these court stamps to Maximilian Ferdinand von Toerring-Seefeld . Most recently he was Lord of Castle and Hofmark Herrnfehlburg , which he had bought from the Straubing Vizedom , Johann Wigeläus Freiherrn von Paumgarten .

In his first marriage, Simon Höller married the widow Rosina Miedanin on April 12, 1634 († May 9, 1662). They had the following children:

  • Simon (1643-1665)

In his second marriage, Höller married Maria Elisabeth Niedermayer on November 4, 1670 in his house chapel in Straubing . This marriage remained childless. Höller adopted two sons, Franciscus and Johann Bartholomäus, who both became clergymen.

In 1643 he acquired the Lerchenfelder property on Ludwigsplatz and in 1645 had a baroque house chapel built. The altar of the chapel, which is now a listed building, is decorated with a picture by Cosmas Damian Asam of Katharina of Alexandria , one of the fourteen helpers in need . In the new construction of today's Straubinger Tagblatt publishing house at the same location (Ludwigsplatz 32), the chapel was preserved and included in the new building.
