Simon Heller
Simon Heller (born October 25, 1843 in Tachau , Austrian Empire ; died May 4, 1922 in Vienna ) was an Austrian educator for the blind .
Life
Simon Heller attended the teacher training college in Olomouc . He then worked as a private tutor in Tachau. He went to Vienna, where he became a primary school teacher and then a continuing education teacher. In 1873 he was appointed director of the Israelite Institute for the Blind on the Hohe Warte , which he headed until his death in 1922. He introduced modeling and drawing lessons at schools for the blind. Heller founded an institute for the war blind . Heller wrote a variety of textbooks and writings on teaching the blind. Heller was appointed to the Imperial Council . He is buried in an honorary grave of the City of Vienna in the Vienna Central Cemetery , Israelite Department.
The special education teacher Theodor Heller is his son.
