Simon Olsen (politician, 1938)

Simon "Aqqalu" Olsen (* 1938 ; † June 8, 2013 ) was a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ) and entrepreneur .

Life

Simon Olsen began training as a factory worker in Denmark in 1959 . From 1967 he worked in factories in Maniitsoq and Sisimiut . In 1977 he was appointed the first Greenlandic head of a KGH factory. After the KGH was dissolved, the factory was transferred to Royal Greenland .

In 1991 he became a successor member of the council of the municipality of Sisimiut . In 1993 he was elected mayor. In 1999 he handed over the office of mayor to Hermann Berthelsen . In the same year he was elected to Inatsisartut , where he was appointed Minister of Fisheries, Hunting and Acquisitions. In 2002 he was re-elected and retained his ministerial post. After strong criticism, he resigned in November 2004.

From January 2006 to August 2009 he was chairman of the supervisory board at KNI . He died in 2013 at the age of 75.
