Simon Petermann (* 1982 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( trombone , electronics ) and radio presenter .

Live and act

Simon Petermann grew up in a musical family and played the bamboo flute , drums and trumpet as a child before switching to the trombone at the age of 16. He attended the music school in Köniz and played in the big band of the Kirchenfeld high school .

In 2003 he began his studies at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, which he continued in 2004 at the Bern University of the Arts and from 2005 to 2010 at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (Master). From 2011 to 2012 he studied at the University of Gothenburg . During his studies he received lessons from Nils Wogram , Adrian Mears and Anders Jormin, among others . He took private lessons from Slide Hampton , Wycliffe Gordon and Michael Brecker .

Petermann was a founding member of the Fischermanns Orchestra from Lucerne in 2007 and has been the musical director there since 2013 . He plays electronic music with the bands Inside the Baxter Building and Maximizerz . From 2002 to 2015 he was a member of the Uptown Big Band from Bern. With these bands he plays in clubs and at festivals in Europe and South America.

Simon Petermann began teaching at the Swiss Jazz School Bern in 2013, and has been teaching at the Bern University of the Arts since 2015.

In 2012 he started working as a radio presenter for the Bern local broadcaster Radio RaBe and has since hosted the weekly jazz show Jazz am Sunntig together with Christian Schütz .

Awards

With the Fischermanns Orchestra , Petermann won the Lucerne Jazz Prize in 2014 and, as a member of the same formation, received selective funding from the Canton of Lucerne in 2018.
