Simona Meiler (born September 13, 1989 in Flims ) is a Swiss snowboarder . She starts in the snowboard cross discipline.

Career

Meiler, which starts for SC Flims, made its first international appearance at the European Olympic Winter Youth Festival 2005 in Monthey . There she was fifth in snowboard cross and won the bronze medal in the halfpipe. In the Snowboard World Cup she made her debut at the beginning of the 2005/06 season in Saas-Fee and finished 33rd. In the 2006/07 season she came in the top ten three times in the European Cup. She won in Serfaus and won the snowboard cross classification at the end of the season. At the Snowboard World Championships 2007 in Arosa , she achieved 17th place. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season, she reached eighth place in Valle Nevado, her first top ten placement in the World Cup. In the further course of the season, three top ten results followed and finally 13th place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. In the following season she achieved four top ten results in seven World Cup starts and at the end of the season she finished 12th in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. At the peak of the season, the 2009 Snowboard World Championships in Gangwon , she was tenth. After finishing 18th in Chapelco at the beginning of the 2009/10 season, she came on the podium for the first time in the World Cup in Telluride . Four top ten results followed, including second place in La Molina . In her first Olympic participation in Vancouver in 2010 , she finished ninth. In April 2010 she became Swiss champion in snowboard cross. She finished the season in 15th place in the overall World Cup and in fifth place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. Her best season result in the 2011/12 season in the World Cup, which she finished in 15th place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup, was sixth in the Stoneham . In the 2012/13 season she came in seven World Cup starts, four times in the top ten and thus reached eighth place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. At the season highlight, the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham , she finished 25th. The following year she was tenth at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . In the 2014/15 season she started mainly in the European Cup. In doing so, she achieved third place and one place, thus reaching eighth place in the snowboard cross ranking. She won the bronze medal at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Sierra Nevada .

Meiler has participated in 57 World Cups so far and was among the top ten 22 times. (Status: end of season 2016/17)
