Simone Lucas (* 1973 in Neuss ) is a German artist.

life and work

Lucas studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where she was a master student of the painter Dieter Krieg , a representative of the New Figuration .

Similar to war, she dedicates herself to a new objectivity in her pictures - turning away from the temporarily predominant mainstream of abstraction in postmodern painting. Her early work was even stronger through comic and pop art influences and from an ironic-pointed discussion and the like. a. coined with mannerism . The series Austria Colored and Seasons , in which landscapes, female nudes and portraits as well as social clichés represent central motifs that correspond and merge with one another, are examples of an independent new combination and interpretation of well-known style elements and types.

In her creative phase since the mid-2000s, she combines expressionistic and surrealist elements, some of which appear abstract, which come together in their own way of expression to form an “astonishing” New Realism and in which the artist takes up motifs from science, religion and mysticism. Here, it removes the boundaries between outside and inside spaces, creating multiple levels of reality. A reference to the history of art or literature is helpful here for understanding. For an interpretation of these mostly large-scale paintings, what Alfred Döblin wrote about Franz Kafka and his storytelling can apply : “They are reports of complete truth, not at all like invented, strangely mixed up, but of a completely true, very real one Center organized. "

A recurring, central theme is the interpretation and meaning of women in modern society, the role (mis) understanding of the sexes and the search for a sincere attitude in this artistically turned inside out conflict. However, this discussion does not take place with a "raised index finger", but in a (self) ironic, deliberately exaggerated manner - and thereby also subversively questions the classic positions of traditional feminism , which seems to be more and more like a conservative dogma and to reject substantial further development.
