Simone Massi

Simone Massi (born May 23, 1970 in Pergola ) is an Italian animator , draftsman, director, illustrator.

biography

After graduating with a degree in film animation from the State University of Fine Arts in Urbino , he conceived and realized several animated films that were shown at 600 festivals in 54 countries on 5 continents and garnered 200 awards. His animation La memoria dei cani was awarded at the main animation festivals in Stuttgart ( Trickfilmfestival Stuttgart ), Hiroshima , Zagreb , Krok .

His animation Nuvole Mani was selected in the competition of the 66 Venice International Film Festival and that of Clermont-Ferrand and was nominated for best short film to David di Donatello (the Italian Academy Awards).

Both La memoria dei Cani and Nuvole Mani are featured in "The Animation Show of Shows", a DVD collection of the world's best short animations published by the American Acme Filmworks. In February 2009 the book and a DVD (with 13 short animations) "Poesia Bianca. Il cinema di Simone Massi", curated by Roberto Della Torre, for the Italian Film Library Foundation were released. In 2011 he illustrated the books La casa sull'altura by Nino De Vita with the afterword by Goffredo Fofi, Torino and Roma by Edmondo De Amicis .

In November 2011 his short animation Dell'ammazzare il maiale was published , which received special mention from the jury at the 29th edition of the Turin Film Festival , which it defined as "A painful and beautiful arrow burned into our memories". In April 2012 the film won the David di Donatello Prize for Best Short Film.

The animation film critic Giannalberto Bendazzi claims: “For about ten years now, Massi has been the best ambassador of Italian animation abroad, both for the appreciation and for the awards”.

Simone Massi is the author of the hallmark of the 69th and 70th Venice International Film Festival. The short film, which lasts 30 seconds and consists of 300 hand-made drawings, pays homage to Fellini, Angelopoulos, Wenders, Olmi, Tarkovskij and Dovženko.
