history

In 1964, a parents' meeting decided to found singing school classes at the elementary school in Traunwalchen . The singing and music school was founded in 1965, encouraged by the Mayor of Traunwalchn at the time, Josef Schroll. The first teachers at the Traunwalchen Singing and Music School were Hans Lauber , Brigitte Odkolek, Franz Jaksch jun., Georg Gallinger and Siegfried Spranger. The subjects offered were school choir, house music, accordion, flute, melodica, guitar, zither and dulcimer. The Traunwalchen choir friends were also formed in the founding year . The music school is considered to be the nucleus of several similar institutions in the Traunstein district . Franz Jaksch, at the age of 18 Germany's youngest music school director, made contact with the Orff Institute of the Mozarteum in Salzburg . There was close cooperation with the primary and secondary school in Traunwalchen, which was renamed "Carl Orff Primary School Traunwalchen" in 1978. With the renaming it should be pointed out that the educational work of Carl Orff has found a special place of care in Traunwalchen. In 1978 the music school was taken over and continued by the city of Traunreut in the course of the incorporation of Traunwalchen. Almost all common instruments are taught by qualified teachers who have been trained according to the regulations of the Association of Bavarian Music Schools, with classical, folk and modern instruments being offered. The Orff Schulwerk Symposium 2000 took place in Traunwalchen from July 6th to 9th, 2000 .

Markus Lentz, today a member of the Extended Board of the Association of Bavarian Singing and Music Schools, succeeded Franz Jaksch as director of the Singing and Music School from 2001 to 2008. Josef Mayer has been running the music school since 2009 and expanded the basic subjects to include creative dance and rhythm and a mixed plucking ensemble. In 2015, the 50th anniversary of the music school was celebrated with a ceremony in the Traunreuter cultural center k1 and many other events. In 2018, a clear spatial separation was created between the Carl Orff primary school and the music school through a renovation. The music school now has the entire basement wing in its main building in Traunwalchen.

The Traunwalchen Singing and Music School now cooperates with numerous kindergartens and schools in the area.
