The Sinipercidae ( Lat .: "Sino, sina" = from China + Gr .: "Perke" = perch) are a family of East Asian freshwater fish from the group of perch relatives (Percomorphaceae). The fish are found in China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

features

Sinipercidae are of the typical perch shape and resemble the saw bass (Serranidae), to which they were previously counted as a subfamily. They reach body lengths between 11 ( Coreoperca kawamebari ) and a maximum of 70 cm ( Siniperca chuatsi ). As derived characteristics of the family are u. a. the triangular shape of the palate teeth, the weak connection between hyomandibular and Metapterygoid , a longitudinal incision on the upper side of the Ceratohyale (branchial arch bone below the hyomandibular), the weak sawing of postventralen edge of Praeoperculare and two troughs in the upper and lower region to the side of the vertebral bodies of the last three vertebrae in front of the caudal spine, the distance between them being greater than half the length of the individual vertebrae.

Systematics

The Sinipercidae were originally placed as the subfamily Sinipercinae in the family of sawfish (Serranidae). The American ichthyologist Gosline assigned them to his newly established family of codfish (Percichthyidae) in 1966 . In the current revision of the bony fish system by Betancur-R. and colleagues and in other current studies, the Sinipercidae are raised to the rank of an independent family within the Percomorphaceae . They probably form the sister group of a clade of sun (Centrarchidae) and dwarf black perch (Elassomatidae).
