Sint Alardskerk

The Sint Alardskerk (also called St. Alardus ) is the Evangelical Reformed parish church of Serooskerke (municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland ) in the Dutch province of Zeeland . The place should not be confused with Serooskerke on the neighboring Walcheren .

history

In 1187 the place was first mentioned as Alerdeskirkdam . The Parish Serooskerke with the Alardskerk was first mentioned in 1405 in a register of the Archdeacon of the Utrecht Cathedral . The late Gothic tower that still exists today was built in the first half of the 15th century. In the course of the Eighty Years' War , Spanish troops severely devastated the town and church on December 14, 1557. However, the Reformation in the region was not reversed, and Serooskerke also remained reformed. In the course of the reconstruction work, the nave was rebuilt and the choir was closed because it no longer met the liturgical requirements. A sacristy was built in its place in the 18th century .

In the course of the flood disaster of 1953 , the church was also badly affected and was reconstructed in Gothic form in 1957/58 . The Reformed Congregation belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .
