Siouxsie Sioux [ ˈsuːzi ˈsuː ] (born May 27, 1957 in Southwark , London ; actually Susan Janet Ballion ) is a British musician who is best known as the singer and songwriter of the group Siouxsie and the Banshees .

In 2007 she released her first solo album, Mantaray .

Career

Ballion founded the group "Siouxsie and the Banshees" at the age of 19, with whom she released the debut album The Scream in 1978 and subsequently a large number of other records. In 1981 the project The Creatures was launched, in which she also acted as a singer and recorded albums and EPs at irregular intervals over a period of more than 20 years .

In 1996, Siouxsie and the Banshees broke up for a variety of reasons, after which The Creatures became the main project of Siouxsie and her drummer and husband Budgie . The album Anima Animus was released in 1999 on their own label Sioux Records, like the Eraser Cut EP a year earlier.

In 2002 a short comeback of the Banshees was organized surprisingly. This did not survive the international seven-year- itch reunion tour. The personal relationship between the two founding members Siouxsie Sioux and Steve Severin was too strained for further collaboration.

The Creatures were also dissolved in 2004, and so Siouxsie is now devoting herself to her solo career. This already began with the “An Evening with… Siouxsie” tour in 2004. The tour was successfully concluded with the concert “Siouxsie Dreamshow” in the Royal Festival Hall . A live recording was made of this final concert. This was released as the singer's first solo release under the title "Siouxsie Dreamshow" as a DVD concert film.

In the summer of 2006 Siouxsie signed a contract with the label "W14" (part of Universal Records), which is directed by John Williams, with whom she had already worked at Polydor in the late 1980s . At the end of June 2007, Siouxsie surprisingly announced the separation from Budgie in a BBC2 radio interview, the two are now divorced.

In 2007 she released a solo album for the first time with a completely new band. The work entitled Mantaray was released on a sub-label of the Universal Music Group and received mostly positive reviews from critics. In terms of content, the singer processes current experiences and feelings after her long illness and separation / divorce in a poetic way. In terms of music, the course that was already taken with the concerts as part of the An Evening with ... Siouxsie Tour and the Siouxsie Dreamshow will be continued. It is a fusion of unusual arrangements of the dark, experimental sounds of the banshees and creatures with classical, jazz and big band influences.

In August 2007, a pre-release single for the album was released with the title Into a Swan , which can be musically defined as a kind of "industrial glam rock". This publication was followed by an international tour through Europe and the USA, often playing in smaller clubs. Furthermore, with Here Comes That Day and About to Happen, two further single releases were released. A live recording was made at a concert at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which is now available as a live EP entitled Le Tour Eiffel, both as a download and in parts as bonus tracks on the single About to Happen .

In addition to joining Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Creatures Sioux worked with artists like Morrissey on the song Interlude (1994), Hector Zazou to the song The Lighthouse (1995), John Cale of the song Murdering Mouth (1998), Marc Almond at the song Threat Of Love (1999) and the Basement Jaxx on the song Cish Cash (2003) together. Most recently, Siouxsie worked with the film composer Angelo Badalamenti (including David Lynch - regular composer) on the song Careless Love for its soundtrack to the John Maybury film The Edge of Love (2008).

On June 15 and 17, 2013 Siouxsie gave two concerts at the Meltdown Festival in London's Royal Festival Hall . These were her first concerts in five years.

In 2015, Siouxsie recorded the new title Love Crime for the TV series Hannibal . The title was released on iTunes in December . In the same year, the compilation album Hannibal Season 3 - Volume 2 was released.
