Siraj Gena

Siraj Gena (born November 12, 1984 ) is an Ethiopian marathon runner .

In 2005 he finished third in the Dubai Marathon . The following year he finished second in Dubai and third in the Nagano Marathon . A 13th place at the Amsterdam Marathon in 2007 was followed by a fourth place in Nagano in 2008 and 2009. At the end of the 2009 season he finished ninth at the Frankfurt Marathon with his best time of 2:10:41 h .

In 2010 he first came second in the Mumbai Marathon and then won the Rome Marathon with his personal best of 2:08:39 h. He covered the last 500 meters barefoot to secure a special bonus that the organizer had offered in memory of the 50th anniversary of Abebe Bikila's Olympic victory . In the fall he won the Beijing marathon in 2:15:45 in stormy conditions .
