Sirkka-Liisa Hahmo

Sirkka-Liisa Hahmo (* 14. September 1941 in Pirkkala , Finland ) is a Finnish Fennistin and Finnougristin that from 2000 to 2008 as a professor for Finno at the University of Greifswald worked.

Life

From 1962 to 1968, Hahmo studied the subjects of Finnish language , Finnish literature and adult education at the University of Tampere ( Finland ) and Hungarian at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest . After working as an assistant, lecturer and lecturer at the University of Tampere, she took on the position of research assistant (wetenschappelijk medewerker / universitair docent) at the Finnish-Ugric Institute of the University of Groningen ( Netherlands ) in 1970 , which she held until 2000. In 1994 Hahmo received his doctorate with the dissertation Grundlexem or Derivation? : the Finnish nouns of the types comb and pähkinä and their story about Doctor in de Letteren (Doctor in Humaniora) at the University of Groningen . In 2000 she was offered the chair of Finno at the University of Greifswald .

Research and Teaching

Hahmo taught both language and literature . Her main focus is on loanword research , etymology and historical morphology . Hahmo has developed numerous etymologies of his own that are widely recognized. The three-volume lexicon of older Germanic loanwords in the Baltic Finnish languages , which she co-authored, is a recognized standard work of Germanic-Finnish language contact research . In the cultural field, Hahmo's research on the origin and translation of the Kalevala as well as popular scientific writings should be mentioned. In addition, she has made Finnish literature and culture known in the Netherlands and Belgium by e.g. B. participated in radio broadcasts as an expert.

Memberships and honors

Sirkka-Liisa Hahmo is a member of numerous scientific associations. As a public recognition of her services to cultural work , she was awarded the First Class Knight's Badge of the Order of Knights Suomen leijona by the Finnish President in 1983 . In addition, Hahmo is the recipient of the numbered bronze medal for the 1985 Kaleval anniversary.
