Sistema Ferroviario Metropolitano Local (SFMR) ( Italian , in about: all regional urban railway system ) is an in-building regional commuter train system in the northern Italy region Veneto , in the interval timetable is to operate. In addition to the region itself, the Ferrovie dello Stato , Sistemi Territoriali and various local authorities are involved.

concept

In contrast to most S-Bahn systems in German-speaking countries with a shared trunk line, the SFMR is a polycentric network with the three central points Venice , Padua and Treviso and other points of connection.

The waiting times for transfers should be minimized, the lines should run at a fixed frequency and the departure times should be made easy to remember.

In connection with the expansion of the S-Bahn, the regional bus network is also to be adapted to the connections to the train. The modal split is expected to increase by 74.2% in favor of the railways, but car traffic is to be reduced by 7.7% and bus journeys by 32.3%.

Planning sections

The first phase (shown in red on the map) comprises the triangle Venice, Padua and Castelfranco Veneto as well as the routes from Venice to Treviso, Mira Buse and Quarto d'Altino . In April 2008 , the second phase of the network expansion was financed, which includes the Quarto d'Altino– Portogruaro , Treviso– Conegliano , Castelfranco Veneto – Vicenza and Padua– Monselice sections .

Subject to further financing, the network will in a third phase include all railway lines within the Portogruaro , Conegliano, Montebelluna , Bassano del Grappa , Schio , Vicenza, Rovigo and Chioggia area. Finally, in a fourth phase, there are long-term plans to expand the network to Verona , Trento and Calalzo di Cadore .

New sections to be built are Padua- Chioggia , a southern bypass from Padua and a branch line to Venice-Marco Polo Airport .
