Sixt Christian Lipenius (born December 3, 1664 in Halle (Saale) , † March 16, 1708 in Lübeck ) was a German theologian, educator and librarian.

Life

Lipenius was a son of Magister Martin Lipenius from his first marriage to Anna Barbara, geb. Bertram, the daughter of the pastor at the Ulrich Church D. Sixtus Bertram, after whom he was also named. In 1672 his father was called to Stettin, and so he attended school in Stettin and then at the Katharineum in Lübeck , where his father was appointed vice rector in 1676. On April 30, 1685 he was enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , but according to his own information he studied at the University of Leipzig from May 1685 .

After completing his studies, he returned to Lübeck in 1689. A private examination with the superintendent August Pfeiffer made it possible for him to support his ailing and old father in his service. After his death on November 6, 1692, the council of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck appointed him in early 1693 to succeed Michael Freude as sub-rector at the Katharineum in Lübeck . The management of the city ​​library was associated with the position .

Since June 1694 he was with Catharina Gertrude, geb. Bald, married. The couple had two daughters and two sons who survived their father, including Theodor Martin Lipenius (* February 2, 1697, † April 29, 1756), who in 1741 became a preacher at the Petrikirche in Lübeck.

Sixt Christian Lipenius died of scurvy .
