Ioan Tănăsescu

Ioan Tănăsescu (born February 23, 1892 in Bucharest , Romania , † December 28, 1959 there ) was a Romanian chemist.

Life

From 1904 to 1911 Tănăsescu studied at the University of Bucharest and then went to the University of Cluj, where he took the state examination in 1912. In 1920 he became laboratory manager there and in 1922 Dr. rer. nat. PhD . He completed his habilitation in 1927 and was appointed adjunct professor of organic chemistry at the University of Cluj in 1930 . He became known for his work in the field of nitrogen heterocycles , in particular on that of acridines . Together with the German chemist Kurt Lehmstedt he developed the Lehmstedt-Tănăsescu reaction in which 2-nitrobenzaldehydes are reacted with aromatics and react to form acridones . He also conducted research in the field of polycyclic hydrocarbons with only one common ring atom ( spiro compounds ).
