Skalmierzyce (German 1908-20 Alt Skalmierschütz , previously Skalmierzyce ) is a village in the powiat Ostrowski in the Greater Poland Voivodeship , Poland . The population of Skalmierzyce is around 2100. Since January 2010 the village has been the seat of the urban and rural municipality Nowe Skalmierzyce .
history
After the invasion of Poland , the village was renamed Old Skalds in 1939 .
Culture
One of the listed sights of the community is the Sankt-Katherinen-Kirche with its chapels and the cemetery. The church itself was built in 1791–1792 and was rebuilt and expanded in 1873 and in the 20th century. While the oldest chapel dates from 1621, St. Joseph's Chapel was added in 1791. Parts of the surrounding wall and the main gate date from the time the church was built.
