Skene ( Scottish Gaelic : Sgainn ) is a parish in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is divided into the villages of Kirkton of Skene , which is directly adjacent to Westhill to the west, and Lyne of Skene , which is five kilometers northwest . The Loch of Skene lies in the area . Skene is about eight miles west of Aberdeen and south of Inverurie .
history
A stone or early Bronze Age stone circle and a standing stone are evidence of the early settlement of the area.
In 1318 King Robert the Bruce created the Baronate Skene for Robert Skene , whose descendants held the lands until 1827. In the 14th century Skene had one of the largest tower houses in Scotland built there. Around 1850, it was for the Duke of Fife to the mansion Skene House expanded. The country villa Kirkton House was built in 1848.
The current Parish Church of Skene was built in 1801. It shows stylistic parallels to the Echt Parish Church .
While around 1,800 people lived in Skene in the second half of the 19th century, in 1971 only 258 were counted.

The from Aberdeen to Corgarff leading A944 runs south of Kirkton of Skene over and is of Lyne of Skene from short distance in Dunecht reach. The A90 ( Edinburgh - Fraserburgh ) to the east and the A96 (Aberdeen - Inverness ) to the north are accessible after a few kilometers.
With the Aberdeen Airport International is an international airport located at a distance of ten kilometers.
