In 1957, the Austrians Marcus Schmuck and Fritz Wintersteller were the first to climb the then nameless summit in alpine style . They started on June 18 from their base camp on Broad Peak at 4950 m altitude, camped at 6060 m altitude and reached the summit the next day. They returned to base camp the following morning. The two climbers only needed 53 hours for the entire ascent from base camp to the summit and back.
