Skitliv ( no . 'Scheißleben') is a Norwegian black doom band. It was founded in 2005 by the former Mayhem singer Maniac .

history

Maniac founded Skitliv in 2005. He had never wanted to play in a band after his separation from Mayhem, but continued to write music. For the fact that songs developed out of this, “which slowly turned into that monster that lived inside me”, “[not] least [...] Shining boss Kvarforth [...] was partly responsible. 'We used to hate each other,' says Maniac. 'But now we're very close friends. At some point he moved in with me in Oslo for a while and wrote songs with me. We have very different, yet similar, views. To understand that, just listen to the album [ Skandinavisk misantropi ]. '"

The band recorded their debut album Skandinavisk misantropi , which was released in 2009, in Maniac's studio in Oslo . On the album worked alongside Kvarforth Ingvar Magnusson on guitar. Tore Moren on bass, Dag Otto on drums as well as guest vocalists Gaahl from God Seed and Wardruna , Attila Csihar from Mayhem and Sunn O))) and David Tibet from Current 93 .

Style and reception

On Metal1.info the style of the band is described as “a mixture of Noise, Doom and Psychedelic Ambient Metal, even if with unmistakable black metal influences”. Even heavy metal underscores this assessment, comparing the band Shining , Bethlehem and Sunn O))) .

In particular, the debut album Skandinavisk Misantropi is given a special meaning. Towards the Shores of Loss (Vulture Face Kain) was described by Anja Müller-Lochner from Metal Hammer as “the most terrifying track on the album” and A Valley Below as “doomy and depressing”, but still “probably the weakest track on the album Albums ". Densetsu “impresses with the ingenious bass lines by Tore Moren ( Arcturus ), which increase to tremolo in the middle section.” The album ends with the “lament and mantra” ScumDrug . Müller-Lochner described the release as "one of the most remarkable records of the year". Her colleague Robert Müller, on the other hand, described the album as “mostly pretty monotonous in its tortured self-flagellation and even marginally soporific in songs like 'Hollow Devotion', but on the other hand there is stuff like the heavyweight, with guest vocals from Industrial - / Neofolk -Legend David Tibet (Current 93) refined 'Towards The Shores Of Loss: Vulture Face Cain', which crushes your bones.
