The Slavutytsch (U510) ( Ukrainian Славутич ) is a command and reconnaissance ship ( Bambuk class ) of the Ukrainian Navy , which was hijacked by the Russian Navy in 2014 and launched since then (as of 2018).

The Slavutytsch is named after the small Ukrainian town Slavutytsch , which was founded in the 1980s . Until the Russian annexation of Crimea , their home port was the Ukrainian naval base in Sevastopol on the Black Sea .

technology

The ship has various facilities for electronic reconnaissance on board. Antennas for border and shortwave communication are externally visible .

Range

The range of the command ship is 1700 kilometers (900 NM ) at a speed of 30 knots and 6500 kilometers (3500 NM) at 14 knots.

history

In the Crimean crisis of 2014, the ship was surrounded by Russian marines . The Ukrainian Navy reported that armed forces in a boat had tried to board the strategically important ship; but the attackers could be repelled. The Navy reported nothing about the use of weapons. On the evening of March 22nd, after days of siege, the Slavutych was brought under the control of pro-Russian militias and Russian special forces. Also in 2018 the ship was under the control of the Russian Federation. A return to the Ukrainian Navy should only be made if the war in eastern Ukraine has been resolved.
