Slip of the Tongue is the eighth studio album by the English hard rock band Whitesnake . It was released in November 1989.

history

After guitarist Vivian Campbell left the band after the tour of the extremely successful album in 1987 , David Coverdale began with Adrian Vandenberg at Lake Tahoe with the songwriting for the next album. Some of the lyrics were completed by Coverdale on Bora Bora . However, Vandenberg injured himself so that he could not play on the album. Only some early material from the pre-recording sessions made it onto the album. Coverdale quickly recruited former Frank Zappa guitarist Steve Vai , who played nearly all of the guitars on the album.

On the tour for the album, the band headlined the Monsters of Rock festival in August 1990 - the performance was released in 2011 under the title Live at Donington 1990 . After the tour, Coverdale broke up the band and took a break before working with Jimmy Page ( Coverdale / Page , 1993).

reception

In both the USA and Great Britain the album reached number ten on the respective charts and platinum status in the USA. Still, the album received mixed reviews. Thom Jurek from Allmusic wrote, for example, that little remains of the blues- based identity of the band. With its 80s production and keyboards, the album sounds a lot like the time in which it was created. It awarded three out of five stars.
