Slobodan Štambuk

Slobodan Štambuk (born March 1, 1941 in Selca on Brač , Yugoslavia , today Croatia ) is a Croatian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Hvar .

Life

Slobodan Štambuk attended high school in Zadar . There he successfully completed his theology studies . He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1966 in his native Selca .

From 1966 to 1968 he worked as a chaplain in the island villages of Gornji Humac and Pražnica on Brač. From 1968 to 1971 he worked as a parish priest in the villages of Pitva and Vrsnik on the island of Hvar . Then he was installed from 1971 to 1978 as parish priest in the villages of Vrbanj and Svirči, which are also located on Hvar. He returned to the island of Brač in 1978, where he was parish priest in the village of Nerežišća until 1981. From 1981 to 1989 he then worked in the island villages of Supetar and Škrip.

On March 30, 1989, Štambuk was appointed bishop of Hvar; he received his episcopal ordination on April 30th. From 1979 to 1989 he was the editor of the church newspaper Bračka Crkva ("The Church of Brač"). He is President of the Council for Mission in the Croatian Bishops' Conference .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 9, 2018.
