Joe Mc Doakes and his wife are avid radio listeners and love to attend shows. Every time they are lucky enough to have actually been selected, something comes up that prevents their participation.

The film is part of a film series of 63 short films made between 1942 and 1956, each of which began with So You… , also known as the Behind the Eight Fall series. George O'Hanlon played the role of Joe McDoake in the So You Want to Be… films, from 1948 Phyllis Coates was the woman at McDoake's side. The name Joe Doakes was a popular slang term in America for the average man at the time.
In the film, the song I Know That You Know is played with music by Vincent Youmans , and it is played during the opening scene and at the end of the film.
So You Want to Be on the Radio premiered in the United States on November 6, 1948.
Award
Gordon Hollingshead was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Short Film" (1 film role) at the Academy Awards in 1949 , but Edmund Reek and his film People in the City (OT: Människor i stad ) had to admit defeat. The Swedish film contains snapshots of people in Stockholm.
