Soajo is a small town ( vila ) and a municipality in Portugal .
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement, including rock paintings and various antas and mamoas . Soajo was first mentioned in a document in 950. In the royal surveys of 1258 it is run as an independent circle.
King D. Manuel I gave the place city rights in 1514 and elevated it to a small town (Vila). In the War of Restoration , the Soajo people supported the Portuguese troops against the Spanish forces in the fighting at Lindoso Castle in 1657.
In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg , the Soajo district was dissolved in 1852 and Arcos de Valdevez was incorporated.
