Cendufe is a town and municipality in northern Portugal .
The inventor Manuel António Gomes (1868–1933) was born here. The clergyman, also known as the Padre Himalaya because of his above-average height, is considered to be one of the fathers of the modern use of solar energy .
history
The archeology is a settlement Cendufes least since the Castro culture , local finds were into Portuguese Ethnological Museum in Lisbon (today National Archeology Museum transferred).
In the surveys under King D. Afonso III. In the 13th century the place was still listed as Sancti Jacobi de Rodalio , in records from 1320 under King D. Dinis the community is noted as ecclesiam Sancti Jacobi de Cenduffe . The community has had its current name since the registers under King D. Manuel at the end of the 15th century.
Between 1864 (possibly as early as 1853) and 1900, Cendufe formed a single community with Rio Cabrão , after which Cendufe became independent again. In 1839 Cendufe still belonged to the district of Ponte de Lima , since 1852 it has been a municipality in the district of Arcos de Valdevez.
