Sobekhotep VIII was an ancient Egyptian king of the Second Intermediate Period . It is only known for certain from two monuments. He appears in the so-called King's List of Karnak and a stele of him was found in Karnak, which dates to his fourth year of reign. The stele is of particular interest as it mentions a flood in the temple of Karnak and has the theme of the ruler's care for the temple:

“Sobekhotep, lover of the great Hapi (flood of the Nile), which gives eternal life. In the fourth year of the reign of the days of the fourth month of the season Schemu that Pi Kogi Enavot that persist under the auspices of this God for ever: His Majesty went into the hall of the temple to the great flood to look at. His Majesty came into the hall of the temple, which was full of water. His Majesty waded through them ... "

A chronological classification of the ruler within the second intermediate period is not yet possible. Mostly he is placed in the 13th dynasty . Kim Ryholt sees him as a ruler of the 16th dynasty , which he defines as Theban. According to Ryholt, it also appears in the Turin Royal Papyrus, where only Sechemre ... is preserved, which in turn is an element of the throne names of various rulers of the second interim period.
