The Sobolooch-Majan ( Russian Соболоох-Майан even Соболох-Маян , Soboloch-Majan; Yakut Соболоох Майаан , Sobolooch Majaan; in the upper reaches Sobopol , Russian Собопол ) is a 411 km long right tributary of the Lena in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Russia .
The river rises under the name Sobopol a good 200 km west of Verkhoyansk in the middle of the Verkhoyansk Mountains , which have high mountain character there and reach heights of 2400 m . The source is a good 15 km southeast of a 2409 m high nameless peak in the Orulgan ridge, the highest point in the northern part of the mountain range. It first flows in a narrow valley about 70 km in south-south-west to south-south-east directions, then turns west. Soon the valley will widen; from there the river bears the name Sobolooch-Majan. It leaves the mountains and, increasingly meandering in wide arcs , maintains the overall westerly direction of flow until it finally flows into the Lena above the village of Kystatyam , a good 50 km below Schigansk and over 600 km as the crow flies north-northwest of the republic's capital Yakutsk .
The catchment area of the river covers 13,300 km². The most important tributaries are Mjatschen (also Meegen, length with source river Ottuktach 79 km) from the left and Kuolanda (78 km) and Nimingde (with source river Sudjandalchan 254 km) from the right.
The annual mean discharge at the Sobopol weather station , 240 km above the estuary, is 82.38 m³ / s, with a maximum monthly mean of 313 m³ / s in July and a minimum monthly mean of 2.94 m³ / s in March. The river freezes over from October to May.
The Sobolooch-Majan flows through a very sparsely populated area. There are no towns on the river.
