Sofyane Cherfa ( Arabic سفيان شرفة; * August 13, 1984 in Toulouse ) is a French football player of Algerian origin.

Club career

Cherfa moved in 1999 to the youth team of AS Monaco , where he was included in the second team in 2003. Although he ran for this regularly, he did not succeed in the first selection, which competed in the top French league, as the club belongs to the French football system. Instead, Cherfa moved in the summer of 2005 at the age of almost 21 to the third division club CS Louhans-Cuiseaux , where he immediately became a regular in defense.

This enabled him to move to the second division for Stade Reims in 2007 . For Reims he made his debut in professional football when he was substituted on at a second division encounter against FC Libourne on August 3, 2007 in stoppage time in the second half. Three weeks later he was in the starting line-up for the first time and was able to secure a position as a regular player for the rest of the season. Nevertheless, he turned his back on Reims after a year and signed with CS Sedan , which he left after a year when he moved to LB Châteauroux in 2009. In Châteauroux he was first used irregularly, but was again a regular in his second season.

The club was his last stop in France for the time being, because Cherfa decided in 2011 at the age of 26 to move to the Cypriot first division club Omonia Nicosia . During his first year abroad, he was one of the top performers of his team in the first Cypriot league and won the Cypriot Cup, his first title of his career. Despite everything, those responsible decided in the summer of 2012 to loan the player to the Greek first division club Panthrakikos . Even in the third country where Cherfa was used as a player, he was able to maintain his regular position in the league. From the Greek first division club, he returned to Nicosia in 2013. After spending another year in the Cypriot club's jersey, he moved to Panthrakikos again in the summer of 2014, but this time not on loan.

In January 2016, the Algerian player moved to a club from that country for the first time when he joined the first division club CS Constantine . After being without a club for almost half a year, Cherfa moved to the Italian fourth division club Albano Calcio in December 2017 .

National team

In preparation for qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Football Tournament , Cherfa was part of a selection of 14 Algerian youngsters from French clubs. Thanks to his Algerian origins, he could have played for an Algerian national team, but was never called up to such a team. He never ran for a French selection.
