Solveira is a freguesia (municipality) in Portugal, in the Montalegre county and in the Vila Real district . Solveira extends over 12.3 km² and is home to 154 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). The patron saint of the community is Santa Eufémia .

geography

The municipality is located in the Serra do Larouco mountain range . The border with Spain runs north about 5 km away.

history

The community formerly formed together with Santo André and Vilar de Perdizes the Honra (area over which a Hidalgo rules) Vilar de Perdizes .

Special incidents

The community was in the focus of the Portuguese public in June 2009 when the community leader of the ruling party (PS) Alberto Alves Ferreira fired seven shots at his likely rival Hilário Calado (PSD) and then went into hiding.
