When the murder began (original title Sometimes in April ; German reference title Immer wieder im April ) is a film by the director Raoul Peck from 2005 . It tells the story of two brothers during and after the genocide in Rwanda , partly in the same places as the film Hotel Rwanda , such as the Hôtel des Mille Collines .
content
While Augustin Muganza, who is himself a Hutu but married to a Tutsi , loses his family, his brother Honoré is one of the whip in the genocide that has to answer before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha .
Awards
The film ran in the competition at the Berlinale 2005 . At the award ceremony, however, the film came away empty-handed. The film Hotel Rwanda , which deals with the same topic, was also shown at this Berlinale . Sometimes in April won the Durban Film Festival later that year .
criticism
"Poignant drama about genocide, which carefully expands the bitter view of the crimes against humanity to include perspectives on hope and reconciliation."
