The 55th Berlin International Film Festival took place from February 10th to 20th February 2005 instead.

International jury
The jury was led in 2005 by the German director Roland Emmerich as president. Other jury members were: Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė (actress from Lithuania ), Bai Ling (actress from the PR China ), Franka Potente (actress from Germany ), Wouter Barendrecht (producer and CEO of the world sales organization Fortissimo Films from the Netherlands ), Nino Cerruti (fashion designer and founder of the fashion label Cerruti 1881 from Italy ), Andrei Kurkow (screenwriter, cameraman and writer from Ukraine ).

panorama
The Panorama section was 20 years old this year. To this end, a photo exhibition was set up that looked back over these 20 years. The stars of the Panorama section this year were Kevin Spacey , who showed his film Beyond the Sea - Music was his life . Rebecca Miller took part in the panorama with her film The Ballad of Jack and Rose . Her husband Daniel Day-Lewis played the lead role. The panorama's biggest star was George Michael , who presented the documentary A Different Story .

Children's film festival / 14plus
The juries of Kinderfilmfest and 14plus awarded prizes to the following films: The “Transparent Bear for Best Fiction Film” went to the Dutch film Bluebird by Mijke de Jong . The “Transparent Bear for Best Short Film” went to The Djarn Djarns by Wayne Blair. The “Transparent Bear for Best Youth Film” (14plus) went to the film Voces Inocentes by Luis Mandoki .

Retrospective
The retrospective of this year's Berlinale was dedicated to the set designers. The film series ran under the title scenes - locations - game rooms. Production design & film . It was divided into five areas and a total of 45 films were shown.
