New releases and successors
The Sonic Mega Collection was released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube . In 2004 the Sonic Mega Collection Plus followed with six additional Sonic games from Sega Game Gear, initially for PlayStation 2 and Xbox and in 2006 for Windows . This version was then also part of 2 in 1 Combo Pack: Sonic Mega Collection Plus / Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (2005, Xbox), Sega Fun Pack: Sonic Mega Collection Plus & Shadow the Hedgehog (2009, PlayStation 2) and Sonic PC Collection (2009, PC).
The Sonic Gems Collection , which was released in 2005 for the GameCube and PlayStation 2, contained nine other Sonic games that were not included on Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Mega Collection Plus . Another game collection exclusively focused on Sonic games was the Sonic Classic Collection released in 2010 for the Nintendo DS .
