Sonic Advance 2 is a 2D platformers Run - Computer game that the Sonic Team developed and Dimps and Sega for the first time in Japan on 19 December 2002 for the Game Boy Advance was released. It is the second part of the trilogy and is based on the original games from the Sega Mega Drive . For the first time the new character Cream the Rabbit was playable.

It is the successor to Sonic Advance (2001) and the predecessor of Sonic Advance 3 (2004).

action

The evil scientist Dr. Eggman plans to take over the world and establish the "Eggman Empire". To do this, he continues to capture animals. Sonic sets out to meet Dr. Eggman's plans to thwart and save the animals, he meets the little girl Cream the Rabbit for the first time with her Chao named Cheese and Chocola . Cream is desperate because her mother Vanilla has been kidnapped, so Sonic promises to reunite her with her mother.

On his adventure, Sonic frees Tails and Knuckles, who were also captured . In the end, only with the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds can Sonic become Super Sonic to help Dr. Follow Eggman to the True Area 53 Zone and free Vanilla. In an action-packed cutscene, Vanilla falls into the depths, but Sonic can fall to the ground faster and catch Vanilla in order to reunite her with her daughter.

Gameplay

In Sonic Advance 2 , the player can choose to take control of the blue hedgehog Sonic (has the Insta-Shield like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 ), the two-tailed fox Tails (can fly in the air and swim underwater), the last Echidna Knuckles (can slide in the air and climb certain walls) or the young rabbit girl Cream with her Chao Cheese (can fly in the air) in a side-scrolling 2D platformer. The level design adapts to the dynamic, fast feel of the game with springs, loops and more. In addition to the control pad for movement, only one action button is required to jump. In jumping or rolling form, called Spin Attack , all characters can defeat opponents or open item boxes on the screen of which the respective item is displayed. If you let the character duck down with the directional pad and then press and release the jump button, the character with the Spin Dash can quickly dash forward from a standing position with the Spin Attack . When touched, the golden rings can be collected; If the pawn takes damage, it loses the rings. If the character takes damage without having rings or falls into a deadly abyss, he loses an extra life, of which you have three at the start of the game. If you collect 100 rings, you get another extra life. The item boxes can also contain an extra life, five rings, ten rings, any number of rings, a protective shield, a magnetic protective shield, temporary increased speed or temporary invulnerability. Checkpoints in the form of lanterns mark the reset point in the event of a loss of life. Points are also collected in all actions, which in turn can give "continues" so that the game can continue despite the loss of all extra lives. Most opponents can be defeated with the Spin Attack, which scores points and frees the trapped animals. It is also possible to grind on certain rails and places.

The game consists of nine zones ( Leaf Forest Zone , Hot Crater Zone , Music Plant Zone , Ice Paradise Zone , Sky Canyon Zone , Techno Base Zone , Egg Utopia Zone , XX Zone and True Area 53 Zone ), the first seven of which Zones consist of two acts that can be defined as levels . The last two zones have only one act. Each zone has its own theme, appearance and variety of opponents. At the end of the last act there is also a fight against the adversary Dr. Eggman and one of his deadly machines, which in this game are almost exclusively contested while running. There are seven special rings hidden in every regular act that need to be found. If all seven special rings of an act are found in one go, after the act has ended, the special zone can be entered, in which one of the seven Chaos Emeralds can be obtained in two minutes for collecting 300 rings. The final True Area 53 Zone can only be reached if you play Sonic and have previously collected all seven Chaos Emeralds. If you have found all seven Chaos Emeralds with all four characters and have completed the game, you unlock Amy Rose as the fifth playable character. As in Sonic Advance , Amy has her Piko Piko Hammer but cannot perform a Spin Attack .

The multiplayer mode can be contested if two to four Game Boy Advances are connected with a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable. If the other players also have the game Sonic Advance 2 as a module in their system, all regular zones can be contested in one race in Multi-Game Pak Mode . There are also the four new item boxes Confusion , Warp , Attack and Brake . If the other players do not own the game, only a separate section of the Leaf Forest Zone is available in the single-game Pak Mode and instead of a race, you have to collect as many rings as possible. There is also a time attack mode.

Apart from the core game, Sonic Advance 2 is one of the Game Boy Advance games that includes the Tiny Chao Garden mode . Here you can hatch your chao figures from an egg, feed and care for it and change the environment. Compared to the Tiny Chao Garden of Sonic Advance Chao have a little more skill, also a mini-game has been replaced. With a special connection cable called "DOL-011" you can connect your Game Boy Advance to a Nintendo GameCube and thus your Chao figures between the Tiny Chao Garden and the Chao Garden from the GameCube games Sonic Adventure 2 Battle , Sonic Adventure DX: Transfer Director's Cut or Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II as desired.

New releases and successors
