Sophia Kennedy

Sophia Kennedy (born August 11, 1989 , Baltimore , United States ) is an American singer, musician and producer. She lives in Hamburg .

biography

Sophia Kennedy grew up in Baltimore, Maryland , and moved to Hamburg to study film at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HfBK). In 2013 she released her first single Angel Lagoon together with Erobique . Together with Helena Ratka, she founded the electronically oriented duo Shari Vari . In January 2017, the duo's first EP brought Life Should Be a Holiday on the label it's from Richard von der Schulenburg out.

Sophia Kennedy recorded her debut album together with Mense Reents in the Studio der Goldenen Zitronen in Hamburg. It was released in 2017 on the Pampa Records label by DJ Koze . The taz described the album as a “peculiar mixture of sounds from the familiar and the alienated”. Intro called it a “euphoric debut” and continued: “The vibes of the record are similar to those of a forgotten masterpiece from the golden era of songwriting and get along very well with the tricks and sounds of postmodern pop.” ByteFM made it the album of Week and summed up: "In every role Sophia Kennedy's voice radiates strength and sovereignty and thus completes her delightfully intricate, multi-layered compositions."

Kennedy was also heard on two tracks on DJ Koze's album Knock Knock , in which she also sings in German.

In July 2019, Sophia Kennedy published Man Don't Know Exactly, a duet with Stella Sommer ( Die Heiterkeit ), on which she can be heard again in German. In the same month, the “minimalist, cool avant-garde pop song” ( ByteFM ) Out Of Order was released as a pre-release single for Shari Vari's debut album Now .
