The Sophia River is a river in the northwest of the Australian state of Tasmania .
geography
River course
The river rises about six kilometers east-northeast of Sophia Peak in the Granite Tor Conservation Area , which connects to the northwest of the Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair National Park . From there it flows west and enters the southern part of Lake Mackintosh , which leads it north to the Mackintosh River .

Dam project
As part of the dam system on the Pieman River and its tributaries, the Sophia River is connected to Lake Murchison by the Sophia Tunnel so that its water can be used to generate electrical energy in Lake Mackintosh . A smaller tunnel, the Sophia Adit , is used to maintain this tunnel .
Identical names
Even the Sophia Peak near the river and the Sophia Street in the small town of Tullah bearing its name. There is also the Sophia Point in the small town of Strahan .
