Sophie Auster (born July 6, 1987 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American singer and actress . She is the daughter of the writer and director Paul Auster and the writer Siri Hustvedt .

Life

She began taking singing lessons at the age of eight, had her first small film role a year later, and finally took acting lessons at the age of twelve. When she was 16 years old, she expressed a desire to pursue a music career. Her father used his relationships for this purpose, which led to a contact with the music duo Michael Hearst and Joshua Camp from One Ring Zero . Paul Auster took part in the musical-literary project As Smart As We Are ; the oysters can be seen in the award-winning documentary of the same name. So it was decided to record a complete album together. On the advice of his father, the choice of text consists of his own texts - two by Sophie and three by Paul Auster - and a medieval text from England, mainly poems by French surrealists : Guillaume Apollinaire , Philippe Soupault , Tristan Tzara , Robert Desnos and Paul Éluard . Most of the texts were translated into English by Paul Auster at a young age. The resulting album Sophie Auster is an interplay of Auster's clear, well-trained voice with the diverse orchestrated music of One Ring Zero .

In July 2006 Auster was on the cover of Rolling Stone, Spain . She is currently finishing work on her second album Broken Down Cabaret .
