Sophie Caroline from Camas

Sophie Caroline Countess von Camas (born von Brandt , * 1686 in Berlin ; † July 2, 1766 at Schönhausen Palace ) was a confidante of the Prussian King Friedrich II.

Life

Born as the daughter of the Prussian lieutenant general Wilhelm von Brandt (1644–1701), Sophie Caroline was the wife of the Prussian colonel and regiment chief Paul Heinrich Tilio de Camas (1688–1741). After his death , King Friedrich raised the widowed Sophie Caroline to the rank of count on August 12, 1742 and appointed her chief stewardess to Queen Elisabeth Christine .

Friedrich held the Countess Camas in high esteem, whom he had known since his time as Crown Prince. He called her mom all her life as a sign of his personal affection , had a high opinion of her intelligence, shared confidential personal and political thoughts with her until her death and often sought her advice. Countess Camas was one of the few women he liked to talk to in a small circle. An extensive correspondence between the two has survived to this day.
