Sopore ( Urdu سوپور) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the northwest of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It is located in Tehsil of the same name in the Baramulla district . In the 2011 census, the population was 61,098, with suburbs 71,292.
The city is centrally located in the northern part of the Kashmir Valley at the outflow of the Jhelam from the Wularsee . The National Highway 1A leads from the provincial capital of Srinagar, 40 km south-east, via Sopore to the 15 km south-west, district capital , Baramulla .
