Sorhagenia taurensis is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe Chrysopeleiidae family . The species was named after the Taurus Mountains , where the holotype was found .

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 6 to 7 millimeters. Head and forehead ( frons ) shine grayish white. The vertex , the neck tuft and the neck collar are mottled gray and light gray. The antennae are ringed ocher gray and dark brown. In the last quarter there are five ocher-white segments. The labial palps are white. Outside and ventrally they are speckled with dark gray, the third segment has a dark gray ring in the apical half.

The thorax is ocher gray and has two dark brown tufts of scales on the side. The tegulae have an ocher-gray sheen. The legs are dark brownish gray and speckled with whitish. The tibiae have speckled ocher white basal , medial, and apical rings.

The forewings are ocher gray and dark gray at the base. They are provided with four dark, brownish-gray tufts of scales. The first is at 1/4 of the forewing length between the anal fold and the inner wing of the wing. The second and largest is located above the anal fold in front of the middle of the wing. The third tuft lies between the anal fold and the inner edge of the wing on the other side of the second tuft. The fourth tuft is at 3/4 of the fore wing length above the interior angle . The two outer tufts are only half the size of the two inner ones. An indistinct, knee-shaped, ocher-brown band is at 3/4 of the forewing length. The Costa loaders and the inner edge of the wing are ocher brown at the apex . A number of small, dark brownish-gray tufts of scales are distributed at the apex along the costalader and on the inner edge of the wing. The fringed scales are brownish gray. The hind wings shine gray and have brownish gray fringed scales.

The abdomen is gray. The segments are ventrally provided with broad grayish white bands at the back. The anal tuft is yellowish white.

In the males the uncus is triangular and has a strongly sclerotized hook at the tip . The valves, including the cucullus, are one and a half times as long as the ampulla. The ampulla is curved at the base. Subapical it is bulbous and has a pointed and curved apex. The saccule is about twice as long as the cucullus. It is wide at the base. It tapers distally and has a rounded, tortuous apical part. The Juxta is long and slender and has a slightly dilated base. The vinculum is curved. The aedeagus is short and has a sharp point. The coecum penis is almost round. The eighth abdominal sternite tapers distally and is provided with rows of broad bristles that are strongly curved at the base.

In females, the ostium is elongated. The lateral processes are narrow and very long and extend beyond the antrum. The antrum is slender and somewhat shorter and narrower than the ductus bursae . The corpus bursae is bulbous. The signa are flattened and have a small thorn.

Similar species

Sorhagenia taurensis can habitually only be distinguished from the other species of the genus by its small wingspan. A reliable differentiation is only possible through a genital examination .

distribution

Sorhagenia taurensis is widespread in Asia Minor ( Turkey ).

biology

The biology of the species is unknown. The few known specimens were collected in mid-July.
