South East Europe Media Organization

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO; German: South East European Media Organization ) was founded in October 2000 in Zagreb founded (Croatia), is the organization's headquarters in Vienna . SEEMO was created at the request of media representatives in the region. Editors-in-chief and owners of many media have stated that they would like an umbrella organization that bridges the gap between the population in the region and international organizations. The founder of SEEMO and General Secretary since 2000 is Oliver Vujovic , a former Balkan correspondent for the daily newspaper Die Presse from Vienna.

deScripto

The organization has published the English-language magazine deScripto , subtitled “A Journal of Media in South Eastern Europe”, on a quarterly basis since October 2004 .

The magazine has set itself the goal of supporting critical reflection by the media in Southeast Europe. Students from Webster University Vienna , the University of Applied Sciences Journalism at FHWien , and the Journalism Institute of the University of Vienna provide the editorial team. Editor-in-chief is Prof. Dr. Thomas A. Bauer . Oliver Vujovic , Secretary General of SEEMO, writes about the media situation in Southeast Europe in every issue of his editorial.

SEEMO Award for Better Understanding

The annual “SEEMO Award for Better Understanding” honors journalists from Southeast Europe. The award is given by Oliver Vujovic and Erhard Busek (Stability Pact Coordinator). So far received this award:

Projects

  • SMH - Media Handbook - South East and Central Europe Media Handbook: Annual publication since 2004. The media situation and media landscape in South East and Central Europe is described annually on more than 2000 pages, including a contact list, websites and e-mails to all leading media in South East Europe (between 300 and 600 contacts per country). Appears every June. According to their own statements, it is used by many politicians as the main source of information on the media situation in Southeastern Europe.
  • SECEPRO - South East and Central Europe Public Relations Organization: Organization for leading PR representatives from 24 countries in Southeast and Central Europe, Founders: Oliver Vujovic, Samra Luckin and Tatjana Cvetkov

  • SEEMF - South East Europe Media Forum: A project by Oliver Vujovic (SEEMO), Andreas Rudas and Srgjan Kerim . Annual conference with leading media representatives and politicians in Southeast Europe. Has been organized by SEEMO together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the WAZ media group since 2007. The first SEEMF took place in Zagreb (Croatia) - participants were around 200 journalists and the then Croatian President Stjepan Mesić . Further SEEMFs were organized in Sofia (Bulgaria), Tirana (Albania), Budapest (Hungary) and Belgrade (Serbia). In 2012 SEEMF was organized as a project by IMC, SECEPRO, SEEMO, KAS and CEI in Budva, Montenegro, 2013 in Sarajevo, 2014 in Skopje, 2015 in Bucharest, 2016 in Belgrade, 2017 in Sofia. SEEMF 2018 will be organized in Tirana in October 2018.
