Soviet ice hockey cup 1989

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1989 season was the 21st and final edition of the Soviet ice hockey cup . In contrast to the other events, the competition was held in 1989 as a pure league cup. This meant that only teams from the Vysschaya League were eligible to participate, in this case only the 10 best teams. Cup winner for the third time was Krylja Sowetow Moscow . The tournament's top scorer was Dmytro Chrystytsch from Sokol Kiev with ten goals.

Preliminary round

Dynamo Moscow , Krylja Sowetow Moscow , CSKA Moscow and Chimik Voskressensk received a bye for the preliminary round and for the quarter-finals due to their placement in the Vysschaya League . The teams in places 6 to 10 played a single round with a return game, i.e. 10 games per team. The two first placed qualified for the cup quarter-finals.
