Social Problems is the title of a biannual specialist journal that has been published since 1990 on behalf of the board of the “Section Social Problems and Social Control” of the German Society for Sociology . The journal serves as a discussion forum for “social science research on constructions, causes, developments, effects and functions of social problems and social control .” It contains articles from the field of critical criminology and social science addiction research.

The magazine was published by Centaurus Verlag until 2014 and by Springer VS since 2015 . A group of twelve editors has been responsible for the content since the 22nd year of 2011. All journal articles from the first 21 years are available free of charge (as of 2015).
