history

The Spandauer Yacht Club was founded on August 2nd, 1885 as the sailing club "Tegel-See" on the Valentinswerder in the Tegeler See. Just three years after it was founded, he was a founding member of the German Sailing Association . In order to avoid the danger of being cut off from the Havel by the bridge construction in Spandau, today's club property on the Scharfen Lanke in Wilhelmstadt was acquired on October 7, 1913 and the club moved from Tegeler-See to the Unterhavel, where it is located new name is still at home today. After a merger with the "Märkisches Yacht-Club" on June 9, 1938, the club name was changed to the name Spandauer Yacht-Club, which is still valid today .

Numerous successes have been achieved in the history of the Spandau Yacht Club. As early as 1938, Jochen Weise, gold medalist in 1936 , won the world championship in the star boat off San Diego with W. von Hütschler .

The Schlimbach Prize , which was given to outstanding sailors in recognition of special achievements , was given to two members of the Spandau Yacht Club. In 1973 Götz Jacky Schreiber received the Schlimbach Prize for circumnavigating Cape Horn as the first German sailor. Ten years later, Harm-Hinrich Rotermund received the Schlimbach Prize in 1983 for his circumnavigation of South America through the Magellan Strait .

Members of the Spandau Yacht Club have repeatedly taken part in the Olympic Games. Jochen Weise took part in the Olympics for the first time in 1936. In 1988 and 1996, the two-time world champion in the 470 , Susanne Bauckholt , took part in the Olympic Games. The last Olympics were in 2004 by Lucas Zellmer and in 2008 by Vivien Kussatz .
