The Spannagelhaus was for many years an all-farmed hut owned by the Central Vienna of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK). In 2013 it was sold to the Zillertaler Gletscherbahn , which demolished the hut and had it replaced by a new building that only functions as a restaurant. The house is located at an altitude of 2531 m in the Tux ridge of the Zillertal Alps , south of Hintertux .
history
The hut was opened on August 22nd, 1885 and was first named after Franz Xaver Wery, who financed the hut from his own resources. The new hut was inaugurated on August 16, 1908, during which time it was finally renamed the Spannagelhaus. The hut was named after the commercial academy professor Rudolf Spannagel , who was the first president of the ÖTK from 1902 to 1904 and who had a fatal accident while climbing on the Raxalpe . Another extension was completed in 1978. For a few years now, the house has also been accessible with the Hintertux Glacier Lift. The last extension with another guest room right next to the outside entrance was completed in 2006. Nevertheless, the Spannagelhaus still had no connection to the central sewage system and no reliable power supply via the Tuxer Ferner.
In 2013 the Spannagelhaus was sold by the ÖTK to the Zillertaler Gletscherbahnen, as no new tenant had been found. The old Spannagelhaus has now been torn down and replaced by a new building that opened on November 21, 2013. However, in summer it is completely closed (opening times via web link) .
