The Geraer Hütte is a refuge of the Landshut section of the German Alpine Club and is located at 2324  m above sea level. A. Höhe in the Zillertal Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol , southeast of Vals at the end of the Vals valley .

history

In 1895 the Gera section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club , founded in 1879, built a refuge below the Alpeiner Scharte , which was expanded in 1934 due to the increasing number of visitors. After the Second World War, the Geraer Hütte, like all DAV huts in Austria, was confiscated by the victorious powers and handed over to the Austrian state. Since the East German sections were dissolved by the Soviet occupation forces in 1945 and a re-establishment was not possible during the GDR era, when it was returned in 1956, the Landshut section initially took over the hut in trust and from 1973 also as the legal owner. After the Gera section was revitalized in 1990, the two sections work together.
