history

Sparkasse Hochrhein was founded on March 23, 1856 at the suggestion of the Grand Ducal State Authority as an orphan and savings bank in Waldshut. The statutes were modeled on the existing Stühlingen fund. In the official announcement sheet it was noted: We see in the institution one of the most charitable foundations of the time, for whose fruits our descendants will be eternally grateful . In 1858 the municipalities of the former Jestetten district joined. After it was founded, the Sparkasse was initially housed in the apartment of the city calculator Jakob Indlekofer in Kaiserstraße, after it was taken over by the notary Phillip Koch in 1861, it was moved to his apartment. After several other moves, the administration building in Bismarckstrasse, which still exists today, was inaugurated in October 1934 in the immediate vicinity of the train station. In 1919 the name was changed to "Bezirkssparkasse Waldshut". The current name "Sparkasse Hochrhein" has existed since the merger with Sparkasse Murg-Laufenburg in 1973. The last merger took place in 1991 with what was then Sparkasse Bad Säckingen.
